Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

We had an opportunity to photograph a Fall wedding in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  Darren and I are always excited to visit a new city or country, whether it’s for our client’s wedding or for our own travels.  November is pretty cold in “Philly” already, but the air is crisp and it hasn’t started snowing yet.

When we arrived, it was some time in the afternoon.  We took a taxi from the airport to our hotel, Sonesta Philadelphia Rittenhouse Square in downtown.  It’s a very modern and contemporary hotel, and we absolutely love the location.  We could walk almost anywhere.  That’s one thing we love about the East Coast is that most cities are very walkable, unlike the West Coast.  Sonesta was a few blocks from Rittenhouse Square and just down the street from the historic City Hall and Thomas Paine Plaza.  There was so much to see in only a couple of days, so in between wedding rehearsal and the wedding day, we took some time to check out a few sights and play tourists around the city!

The dominoes, chess, and bingo pieces in Thomas Paine Plaza were super fun.  In fact, we did the bridal party portraits there.

There were a lot of bronze statues on the streets of Philly, and S. Broad Street had the perfect view of the City Hall.

One morning, we walked all the way to the Reading Terminal Market.  It was definitely senses-overload.  There were so many different merchants in this indoor market – from fresh meat to seafood, pastries, and confections.  You could spend hours walking down each aisle!

We then walked a little further down to the Liberty Bell Center and learned the history of the bell and the crack.

Across the street was Independence Hall.  We didn’t get a chance to take the tour, but we walked around Independence Square

Love this shot of the florals with the Liberty Bell inside the glass building and Independence Hall in the background:

This was the famous “Rocky Steps” of the Philadelphia Museum of Art from the movie “Rocky,” starring Sylvester Stallone. Our bride and groom and the entire bridal party ran up the steps just like Rocky Balboa!  It was epic!

A trip to Philadelphia is not complete without visiting a Philly cheese steak joint:
